TOPIC :: VALUE OF FOREST
- (useful for school students)

Forests are more valuable to human kind. It gives fresh air and is pleasant. It has rich sources of things which is useful for man kind. Wood is one of them. Even in the modern age, when steel plays an important part in the formation of the sky-scrapers, wood still forms an intrinsic part of the smaller modern buildings. Soft woods and hard woods are used for various purposes. Frames and doors are usually made of soft woods. Hard woods are used for furniture.

Furthermore, wood has played large part in transport. The primitive man used wood for making wheels for horse carts, which enabled him to move from place to place; others were dependent on wood for making boats. We can also see how great is the need of timber in the making of paper. The logs of soft wood are first turned into wood pulp. This undergoes certain chemical processes. Paper is the end product. Some forests provide useful oils, turpentine from the pine, palm oil from the palm and olive oil from the olive tree. It plays an important part in the prevention of soil erosion. Addition of huming and vegetable matter by forests, preserves the soil from degeneration. They also attract rain clouds.

Forests are shelters for wild animals and small insects. Thousands of animal species depends on forest for their survival. TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR EYES

TOPIC :: HEALTH :: TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR EYES

“Eyes are so delicate and precious.” Better to always to make regular check-ups. It is always to suggest that to take check-ups for every 6 months. Sunglasses prevents & block harmful ultraviolet (UV) and other rays. Be sure your sunglasses have 100 percent ultraviolet (UV) protection. You should always wear sunglasses when outside but especially in high glare areas around snow or water. It protects eyes. Sunglasses protects eyes. Obviously, anyone working in construction, manufacturing or any job with machinery must wear eye protection (sunglasses/glasses).

“Contacts are a great tool, but they come with responsibility.” Wearing your contacts when your eyes are irritated can turn a simple problem (irritation) into a significant problem (a corneal ulcer). Make sure you care for the lenses properly. Make sure your solutions aren’t expired, keep your contacts clean and keep them out of your mouth.

“Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which eye retina needs.” But, we are not in danger of having vitamin A deficiencies. Green leafy vegetables like kale, collard, mustard greens and spinach are good for the eyes because they contain lutein.  And getting plenty of omega-3 fatty acids from fish and flax can help prevent dry eyes. As we grow, we experience more dry eye symptoms. The biggest reason people have dry eyes is that the tear film doesn’t have the right consistency of water, mucus and oil. The oil part of your tears comes from little glands at the margin of your eyelids. As you blink, oil is supposed to coat the eyes. But, if this coating is insufficient, the tear film evaporates and eyes feel dry. This triggers reflex tearing, which is why your eyes water when they get dry and irritated. Omega-3 helps with this. Also, heat and air conditioning can cause dry eyes.

It is always suggestible to quit smoking. It increases the risk and accelerates the development of cataracts, macular degeneration and optic nerve damage. Don't give much strain to eye. Any focused work means you don’t blink as frequently. And, all the computer work and internet surfing gives much strain to eyes. It is always good to take a break from activities, which involve prolonged staring. And artificial tears can help reduce eye irritation, lubricating the eyes to help you work longer.

It is better to talk to your family. Eye problems are often hereditary. If you are diagnosed with glaucoma or another eye condition, share that information with your immediate and extended family. It is common that eye injuries happens in workplace. However, experts and eye doctors believe the right eye protection could have lessoned the severity or even prevented 90% of these eye injuries. Common eye injuries occurring at work can result from chemicals or foreign objects in the eye and cuts or scrapes on the cornea. Other causes of injuries include splashes with grease and oil, burns from steam, ultraviolet (UV) or infrared radiation exposure, and flying wood or metal chips.

Health care workers, laboratory and other workers may be at risk of acquiring infectious diseases from eye exposure. Some infectious diseases can be transmitted through the mucous membranes of the eye as a result of direct exposure to blood splashes, respiratory droplets generated during coughing or from touching the eyes with contaminated fingers or other objects.

Two major reasons that the workers experience eye injuries on the job are because of:

    1. Not wearing eye protection (esp. glasses) or
    2. Wearing the wrong kind of protection for the job.

It is suggested to use eye and/or face protection whichever is suitable at work place to prevent injuries. Personal protective eye-wear, such as goggles, face shields, safety glasses or full face respirators must be used, when an eye hazard exists. The eye protection chosen for specific work situations depends upon the type of hazard, the circumstances of exposure, other protective equipment used, and individual vision needs.

Always stay healthy. Take boiled greenish vegetables as food. Exercise regularly.
